Allerton Cemetery
Dating back to 1906, this grand cemetery cannot fail to impress. Since that initial burial back in 1909, row upon row of white gravestones has lined this large cemetery. This is a great place to pass some time and there is more to see than well-hewn rock. The natural woodland burial area is a cherished expanse of trees and flora where wildlife thrives come spring and summer.
Parish Church Of All Hallows
Built by John Bibby of the Bibby shipping line, this church has stood proud in Allerton since 1872. The architectural techniques used on the church saw a range of materials incorporated into the building.
The red sandstone exterior contrasts starkly with the Storeton white stone on the inside. Black marble and green jasper glint as light catch them beneath the striking ceiling.
The church tower can be seen for miles around. During the war, the church’s stained glass was taken out of the church and out of the city for safekeeping. It was returned after the bombings had ceased.
Calderstones Park
This simple but well maintained local park is very popular with all Allerton residents. There is more to it than a stretch of grass and a couple of paths. You will find botanical gardens, a children’s playground, the duck lake and a lovely mansion house that hosts a cosy cafe.
