Kirkdale has a distant history as the earliest settlement along this coast; it actually pre-dates the city of Liverpool. Kirkdale Road was a major route into Liverpool when the two separate areas sought mutual trade links. The area has strong ties to working-class poverty and was the site of a huge jail and courthouse many years ago. It was so large it took prisoners from a large part of Lancashire.
There was also Kirkdale Industrial School that was built to teach the children of paupers writing, reading, maths, religious teachings and trades such as needlework and carpentry.
Today Kirkdale remains a working-class suburb with row upon row of Victorian terraces. Hardworking people here spend their time in summer relaxing in the green spaces and also in local bars and lively pubs such as The Peacock.
When you wish to travel farther afield, out of Kirkdale to other Liverpool areas such as Canning or Croxteth or to Liverpool John Lennon airport via our shuttle service, just get in touch to book our minibus or coach hire and we’ll make all the arrangements.
St. John the Evangelist Church
This is a classic example of Roman Catholic church architecture. The nave, column set arcades, chancel, porch and belfry are all worth exploring close up. This is a community church that continues as a focus for Kirkdale society to this day.
Kirkdale Cemetery
Dating from 1878 this expansive cemetery is entered from a huge gate between immense, foreboding red brick pillars. When it first opened the layout gave Church of England, nonconformist and Roman Catholic worshippers access to equal amounts of land.
Back then the three denominations also had their own chapels on site. 478 deceased servicemen are buried here following their passing in the two Great Wars. There is something beautiful about this cemetery. It remains popular today even though there are no plots available for new burials.
Saint Athanasius Church
A fine example of a modern church, St. Athanasius was built to meet the demand for worship that came from the influx of new workers as homes were built for those attracted by work in the expanding docks. The Church structure that was founded in 1880 was bombed by the Germans in the Blitz in 1940.
It survived and was repaired, reopening a year later. It was then bombed again and completely decimated. The current church was built in 1956. It continues to provide for all aspects of the community today.
Kirkdale is worth the trip. And when that trip is over, remember that Garston, Knotty Ash, Southport and Widnes can be reached with ease using our minibus and coach hire.

We were very pleased with the service we received. Our home is not easy to find but the driver had left plenty of time to follow our instructions when he phoned for help. He was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely use and recommend this company again especially for groups of 6 and above.

My family were going out to Christmas dinner on Christmas Day. The price was fantastic to take 10 of us out including multiple pick up and drop offs. The driver Atif was extremely pleasant, prompt and accommodating. Highly recommend and will definitely use them again. Kind Regards, Stephanie International Business Manager.
